Wang Chung - Mosaic

Released in 1986

Mosaic was Wang Chung's fourth and most popular album, featuring their maddeningly addictive signature track Everybody Have Fun Tonight. It was one of those songs that many people found difficult to shake out of their heads… it just oozed 80's mindless entertainment, and quickly became their most popular song of all time. I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to be doing when the song tells me to "Wang Chung" tonight… but hey, it sounds fun!

That's not to say the album is perfect by any means. Wang Chung was a very talented group, but they were just as guilty of slipping in a couple filler tracks amidst their pop gems as other bands. Few music lovers honestly expect to love every song on an album, regardless of the band, so the instances where Wang Chung dropped the ball on this album do not take away from its overall entertainment value.

Some of the album's highlights are:

Whereas Wang Chung didn't abandon their synth-pop, they did change the tempo of this album so that it's more dance club friendly. Don't expect the same moodiness of their previous album, To Live and Die in L.A. – this one isn't about atmosphere, it's about unadulterated fun.
