Run-D.M.C. - King of Rock

Released in 1985

Few rap artists could get away with trying to name their album King of Rock, yet Run-D.M.C. did just that and did so with aplomb. During their debut album we caught a glimpse of their skill at infusing rock into their minimal yet thoroughly infectious rap beats in the track Rock Box. On King of Rock, the conversion is complete… Run-D.M.C. not only took over the rap game, they also adopted the rock world as their own.

If you are familiar with modern rappers like Kid Rock then you should put such attempts at metal/rap fusions out of your mind. Run-D.M.C.'s work was worlds more credible, passionate and appealing. The guitar riffs never distracted from the thunderous beats and furious rap exchanges between Run and D.M.C. King of Rock is what all rock/rap fusion acts could only hope to aspire towards.

Some of the album highlights are:

King of Rock is the high point of Run-D.M.C.'s career, and a rap classic that any fan of the genre should own.
