Motley Crue - Too Fast For Love

Released in 1981

Too Fast For Love is Motley Crue's debut album, and its new approach towards heavy metal quickly became an underground sensation and led the band towards eventual commercial success while also laying down ground rules that other hair metal bands would adhere to throughout the 80's.

The metal on this Too Fast For Love isn't as aggressive as Crue's sophomore album, nor is it a polished as their later albums. It's genuine and raw sleaze metal that one would expect to hear while downing shots of whiskey in a smoky 80's bar. Yet throughout the authentic rocking sound lies a foundation of addictive hooks and melody that would eventually become Motley Crue hallmarks. Few groups could wrap rock assaults around a blanket of widespread appeal as well as Motley Crue.

Highlights on the album are:

After the above songs the rest tend to blend in with each other – none really stand too far apart from each other. That being said, even during the album's most uninspired portions it rocks steady and hard. Too Fast For Love wasn't a huge commercial success, nor was a large budget spent on polishing its sound… but perhaps that was for the best, because I can think of no better or more authentic introduction to Motley Crue.
