Martini Ranch - Holy Cow

Released in 1988

Ever heard of Martini Ranch? Even if you are an 80's pop/rock fan you probably haven't. Don't feel bad, because you're in good company – Martini Ranch was one of the best bands nobody ever heard about!

Martini Ranch was the brainchild of Andy Todd and Bill Paxton (yes, the popular actor who has starred in everything from Near Dark to A Simple Plan), and while it would be natural to approach a musical project spearheaded by an actor with some skepticism, the reality is Paxton knew how to craft some maddeningly appealing pop-rock!

The band's debut, and sadly sole, album, Holy Cow, was released in 1988. Band members from Devo and the B-52's (among other celebrities and artists) jumped on board this project to lend their new wave talents to the well-crafted musicianship. The end product is one that displays a true ear for addictive pop melodies and exhibits a wicked sense of humor throughout many of the songs.

Some of the album highlights are:

Martini Ranch's Holy Cow has been long out of print, which is a shame because this is an absolutely fantastic gem that 80's fans should familiarize themselves with. Since the band has become an obscure footnote in 80's history, the chances of a re-release aren't terribly high either.

If you are a fan of 80's pop-rock, I suggest checking out Amazon or eBay in hopes of finding a used copy of Holy Cow, because at this point finding a new copy will be like finding a needle in a haystack.
