Released in 1984
Wings of Tomorrow was Europe's second album, and like their self-titled debut the album's overall sound has far more in common with true heavy metal than it does with the commercial pop-metal that their subsequent album, The Final Countdown, would adopt. While it wasn't a commercial success in the United States, it is one of those hidden gems that would please most collectors of 80's hair metal.
Although you can expect an ample quantity of melody throughout the tracks (thanks largely to the silky-smooth vocals of lead singer Joey Tempest), you won't find abundant waves of keyboards here. Rather, you'll indulge in some ripping guitar work by accomplished guitarist John Norum, who would end up leaving the band before the release of their next album. At its core the listener will detect the same Europe that would come to dominate the airwaves in the latter 80's, but ultimately Wings of Tomorrow possesses an entirely different sound.

Unfortunately this hard-rocking hair metal gem is out-of-print in the U.S., therefore difficult to find now. If you enjoy 80's hair metal it's definitely worth considering picking up a used copy of the album, or springing for an imported copy.
