80's Horror Movies

Remember when horror movies were a major box-office draw rather than a niche reserved for the weaker release weeks? Unless you are a child of the 80's, probably not, but during that decade blood-soaked slashers and genre entries were huge commercial draws. Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween… those are just a couple of the major horror franchises that spawned sequel after sequel for hungry fans.

Of course the cinemas and horror fans weren't only hungry for the big name sequels. Who can forget Jack Nicholson's shocking performance in The Shining, or Clive Barker's terrifyingly unique tale Hellraiser?

And if cheesy and/or campy B-movies were your thing, the 80's provided an all-you-can-eat buffet of horror flicks ranging from uninspired retreads to brilliant, lesser-known gems.

So welcome, 80's horror fans, to the section of our site dedicated just for you. Whether you are reliving the horror flicks you enjoyed when younger, or discovering the unabashed glory of 80's horror for the first time, you'll find plenty of terrifying goodness here.

Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn

Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn

Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn is a hilarious and twisted horror film directed by the brilliant Sam Raimi (Spiderman). Bruce Campbell, one of the coolest actors in the business, reprises his role as Ash, a man that accidentally unleased an evil presence into the world. Having killed his possessed friends in the original film, Ash now attempts to escape the haunted cabin... but his route of escape is destroyed, so Ash is forced to hunker down in the cabin and try to survive until morning.

Whereas the first film was a pure gore-filled horror film, Evil Dead II injects some unbelievably fun humor into the mix, successful in large part due to Campbell's gift for physical comedy. But don't make the mistake of thinking this is a simple horror spoof, for as our review will show you it's anything but.
