80's Arcade

Each of the 80's arcade and graphical games contained here require the use of Flash, which is a common language for website development. If your browser does not currently have Flash installed you will be informed of that and be supplied a link where you can download the free plug-in.

None of the games in this area will download anything on your computer, so you can play as long as you want without worry of spyware and other assorted Internet nuisances.

Who can forget the phenomenon that sucked down more quarters than New York City parking meters? In 1980 this little gem was released in American arcades and became arguably the most popular arcade of all time.

Asteroids

Sure, Asteroids was released in 1979 rather than the 80's, but who doesn't recall playing this classic throughout the early part of the decade? The graphics aren't much to look at by today's standard, but the playability still remains strong today.

Left arrow key will turn ship left.
Right arrow key will turn ship right.
Up arrow key will thrust forward.
Shift key will activate hyperspace.

Space Invaders

Space Invaders was another game created at the backend of the 1970's (1978 to be precise), but it remained an 80's favorite across the world. Repelling the alien invasion seems easy at first, but how long can you hold out as your shield's die?

Controls:

Left arrow key will move ship left.
Right arrow key will move ship right.
Space bar will fire lasers.
P will pause and unpause the game.
Q will quit the game.

Donkey Kong

Who here doesn't have fond memories of popping countless quarters into this arcade game in an effort to rescue Mario's gal from the bullying Donkey Kong? Simplistic to play, yet very challenging, this is one of the premiere 80's arcade games.

Controls:

Left arrow key will move Mario left.
Right arrow key will move Mario right.
Space bar will make Mario jump.

Moon Patrol

This was one of my favorite arcade games by far during the 80's; I can remember spending a good share of my quarters and/or game tokens here. Avoid obstructions on your path as you also battle alien invaders.

Controls:

Left arrow key will move vehicle left.
Right arrow key will move vehicle right.
Up arrow key will make vehicle jump.
Space bar will make vehicle fire guns.

Frogger

Frogger was another classic arcade hit where you controlled a frog as it tried to cross a busy highway and moat to reach home safely. It's never as easy as it sounds, though, since you have to finish this task before the time expires!

Controls:

Left arrow key will move frog left.
Right arrow key will move frog right.
Up arrow key will move frog forward.
Down arrow key will move frog backwards.

Simon may not have been an arcade game, but countless children spent hours testing their memory against this deceivingly addictive game. Who thought remembering the patterns of four simple colors could be so fun?
